Ecotourism course completed in G.C. College with participant’s presentations
Way2barak, May 17 : 10 days Add-on-course on Ecotourism ended on Tuesday with participants presentations. This course on Ecotourism is the first of its kind being conducted by any college in this valley. The ecotourism course is conducted by the department of Zoology, Gurucharan College, Silchar.This course included both theory and excursion.
It started on 7th May and ended Tuesday i.e. on 16th May. It included 3 hours classes each day covering topics on Wildlife tourism, Mountain tourism, Island and Beach tourism, Wetland tourism, Ethnic and Rural tourism, Pilgrimage tourism and innovations in Ecotourism. A one day excursion has been arranged in collaboration with the Cachar forest division, Silchar. The excursion has been arranged to visit Borail Wild life Sanctuary and Borail Eco camp to give practical experience of the essence of Ecotourism.
Interaction session with the core persons of the Borail Eco camp has been made. Trikal Chakraborty and his associates escorted the 30 member Ecotourism team to the different trails of Borail Wildlife Sanctuary. From the department of Zoology, Dr. Nilendu Dhar, Bijoy Brahma, Sujoy Haldar and Th. Sobita Singha accompanied the students. The Borail Eco camp personals arranged breakfast, lunch and snacks for the Ectourism team. The personnels of Borail Eco camp are very cordial and tourist friendly. The local Khasi people are the core personnels involved in the Borail Eco camp. Sanzida Parveen helped in booking and arranging of the Borail Eco camp from the Cachar forest division front. She is very keen and interested in promoting Ecotourism.
The 10 days course on Ecotourism ended with the participant’s presentation and assessment. 30 participants from Science, Arts and Commerce stream participated in this course. Dr. Gopa Singha, Vice Principal, Gurucharan College addressed the students’ presentation session. She is very delighted to watch the presentations and put forward her valuable comments on the presentations. The students put forward brief presentations on Wildlife tourism, Mountain tourism, Ethnic and rural tourism, Pilgrimage tourism etc.
The faculty members present in the students’ presentation session are Dr. Nilendu Dhar and Sujoy Haldar. All the 30 students successfully completed the Add-on-Course on Ecotourism and they are very interested to go for advanced learning in this field. Commenting on their experience about the trekking and forest trails on Borail Wildlife Sanctuary- they said it was their maiden exposure to Wildlife tourism. They are amazed by the beauty of nature and like to experience more in this field.
The department of Zoology will conduct more such add-on-course on Ecotourism considering the enormous interest of the students. It will bring new entrepreneur to work in the field of Ecotourism in this valley. The natural beauty of this valley can be explored with sensible ecotourist and sensible entrepreneurs, who are trained properly through such courses.
