ECI issues advisory for transfer/ posting of officers connected with conduct of elections in Assam
Dec. 19: In view of the forthcoming General Elections to State Legislative Assemblies of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday has issued an advisory for transfer/ posting of officers connected with conduct of elections. To ensure free and fair election, the Election Commission has been following consistent policy to the effect that officers directly connected with conduct of elections in an election going State/UT are not posted in their home districts or places where they have served for considerably long period.
Accordingly, the Election Commission of India (ECI) directed the Chief Secretaries and Chief Electoral officers of these 5 poll bound states including Assam to strictly ensure that all government officers directly connected with the conduct of elections is not posted in her/his home district. Further, it also should be ensured that the govt. officials who will be connected with the polls should not have completed three years in that district during last four years or would be completing 3 years on or before 31 May, 2021.
Also, any officer, who is due to retire within the coming six months, should not be associated with any election related duty. Finally, the notification specified that the officers posted on recommendation of the Commission during 2019 Lok Sabha elections may be exempted from the transfer policy.
