DTO urges vehicle owners to utilize Vehicle Scrappage Policy Benefits in Cachar District

way2barak, July 2: The District Transport Officer (DTO) of Cachar district, Ramesh Shyam has called on owners of old and unfit vehicles to take advantage of the Assam Government’s ‘Vehicle Scrappage Policy, 2022.’ This initiative aims to ease the burden on owners by providing significant financial relief.
Under the Vehicle Scrappage Policy, owners can have 75% of their total outstanding arrears, dues, or liabilities, including motor vehicle (MV) tax and fitness fines, waived if they choose to scrap their vehicles at a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Assam.
The DTO’s letter, issued on Tuesday, aligns with the directives from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highway, 2024. The extension of this one-time waiver is backed by the powers granted to the state government under Section 3 of the Assam Motor Vehicle Taxation Act, 1936, and Section 65(2)(h) of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The Governor of Assam has officially notified this extension.
The waiver scheme, which is voluntary, will remain in effect until March 31, 2025. Vehicle owners are encouraged to utilize this opportunity for significant financial savings.
This press release is issued from the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, Assam.
