Dry run successful, Assam to get 1.5 lakh vaccines for health workers anytime: Himanta
Jan. 4: The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI)’s approval for the emergency use of Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for immunisation towards Covid-19. This has bolstered hopes for a Covid-free India. This was said by State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the sidelines of an official programme.
The minister further stated that “We can take the vaccines now. I hope the dry runs are complete and anytime we will receive the coronavirus vaccines.” The Assam health department confirmed that they are all set to start the vaccination process with 1.5 lakh front line healthcare, ASHA and Anganwadi workers as the first beneficiaries.
Earlier, the Union Health Minister Harsha Vardhan also said that the frontline health workers will be receiving the coronavirus vaccine in the initial roll out. Police, security personnel and teachers will then be administered the vaccine, which will then be followed by vaccination of persons with comorbidity. In a tweet on 3 January, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “The determined & decisive leadership of PM Sri @narendramodi has meant India today stands tall as among the first few nations in world to have indigenously developed #COVID19 vaccine. A GREAT & GLORIOUS Day for us.”
