Dr Rajdeep Roy writes to MoS Finance, Zonal Office of SBI will not to be shifted from Silchar

Oct. 22: Recently, there has been a news about shifting of the Zonal Office of State Bank of India from Silchar, Assam to Tripura. This was resented by many at that time. On 21 October, 2021, Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy met Minister of State, Finance, Dr Bhagwat Karad in New Delhi and sought his intervention into this matter so that the Zonal Office of State Bank of India is not shifted elsewhere. Dr Roy also gave a memorandum to the minister in this connection.

In his memorandum, MP Dr Roy wrote, “I am given to understand that a proposal is floated to shift the Zonal Office of the State Bank of India out of Silchar, Assam, to elsewhere. In this regard, I am to state that Silchar is located strategically in Southern pan of Assam and is the nerve-centre of Barak Valley, and very well connected with 4 adjoining hill States of Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura. It is the 2nd largest Urban Settlement in the whole of North-East India, after Guwahati. As such I most fervently request you to exercise your good offices so that Zonal Office of State Bank of India presently located at Silchar. Assam. is not shifted elsewhere.”

Responding to his appeal, MoS Finance, Dr Bhagwat Karad issued an official note wherein he wrote, “SBI Head (Silchar) Zone Office should not be transferred.” Dr Rajdeep Roy was thanked by many in the valley for his timely intervention into the matter.
