District Administration pays glowing tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad

way2barak, July 6 :–The Cachar District Administration solemnly observed the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on Sunday at the Old Conference Hall of the District Commissioner’s office in Silchar, honouring the visionary patriot who dedicated his life to the ideals of” Ek Desh, Ek Samvidhan”, One Nation, One Constitution.
The commemorative programme commenced with a floral tribute to the portrait of Dr. Mookerjee, led by Shri Norsing Bey, District Development Commissioner, Cachar, along with Shri Atin Das, noted writer-poet, Dr. Gangesh Bhattacharjee, Head of the History Department at Jagannath Singh College and senior officers of the District Administration. Also offering their homage were Assistant Commissioner-cum-Incharge, DDIPR Barak Valley Zone Smt. Deepa Das, Assistant Commissioner; Smt. Anjali Kumari, Assistant Commissioner and District Social Welfare Officer; Shri Bikramjit Chakraborty, Revenue Serestadar; Shri Debabrata Das, Senior Assistant; Shri Nestle Sylla; other officials, staff members, and local dignitaries.
In his welcome address, Shri Hemanga Navis, ACS, Additional District Commissioner, Cachar, reflected on the significance of Dr. Mookerjee’s contribution to India’s nationhood and unity. He warmly welcomed all dignitaries and attendees, underscoring the relevance of Dr. Mookerjee’s ideals in today’s context.

Delivering the keynote address, eminent poet and writer Shri Atin Das offered a stirring and thought-provoking reflection on the towering personality of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. He spoke at length about Dr. Mookerjee’s unmatched courage in the face of adversity and his role as a true nationalist who refused to bow down to divisive forces. Shri Das described him as “a fearless architect of India’s destiny” whose vision of a united India, undivided by parochial interests, remains deeply relevant. He recounted how Dr. Mookerjee, even before independence, emerged as a strong voice against communalism, standing firm for the rights of all Indians, irrespective of region or religion. He highlighted Dr. Mookerjee’s resignation from the Nehru Cabinet over differences on Kashmir policy as an example of his unshakable principles. Shri Das further stressed that Dr. Mookerjee was not just a politician but also a scholar, a reformer, and a builder of institutions who believed that national unity was the foundation of India’s progress. His message, Shri Das observed, continues to inspire the younger generations to rise above divisions and work for a stronger India.
Following this, Dr. Gangesh Bhattacharjee, Head of the History Department at Jagannath Singh College, delivered an equally insightful and scholarly address on Dr. Mookerjee’s multifaceted contributions. Dr. Bhattacharjee traced his remarkable journey from being the youngest Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University to becoming a stalwart in Indian politics and a champion of constitutional integrity. He elaborated on how Dr. Mookerjee’s intellectual depth and administrative acumen helped strengthen India’s industrial and educational sectors, while his political activism shaped the course of Indian democracy. Dr. Bhattacharjee emphasized that Dr. Mookerjee’s sacrifices, particularly his ultimate martyrdom for the cause of national integration in Kashmir, symbolized his unflinching commitment to India’s sovereignty and unity. His life, Dr. Bhattacharjee added, was a testament to how scholarship and activism can come together to serve the nation.
In his brief yet poignant concluding remarks, Shri Norsing Bey, ACS, District Development Commissioner, commended the gathering for keeping alive the memory and ideals of such a great son of India. He remarked that Dr. Mookerjee’s life of courage, sacrifice, and service continues to illuminate the path for all who believe in the idea of a united and prosperous India.
