Weekend lockdown in all towns of Assam, Curfew in state from 7 PM to 7 AM: Himanta
June 26: In view of the rising cases of Coronavirus in Assam, the government has decided to impose strict curfew all over the state. As such, curfew will remain in force in Assam from 7 PM to 7 AM with effect from 26 June. However, only pharmacies will be exempted.
Further, State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press briefing also revealed that complete weekend lockdown has also been imposed in all the town areas of Assam, starting from 26 June. However, the official order brought out by Kumar Sanjay Krishna, Chief Secretary of Assam mentioned that curfew from 7 PM to 7 AM will come into effect from 27 June. During this weekend lockdown, only pharmacies will be kept open. Grocery stores will also remain shut. This weekend lockdown will continue till the Coronavirus situation is normalized. The Minister stated that this step was taken to contain the spread of the virus in the community.
Meanwhile, complete lockdown have been imposed in Kamrup Metro for a period of 14 days, with effect from this Sunday. During this phase basically except pharmacies and hospitals, all other shops, markets etc will be closed. Even grocery shops will be closed in areas under GMCH in Kamrup Metro.
