CUET likely to be extended for postgraduate courses too: Chairman UGC
April 21: The University Grants Commission (UGC) in March 2022 stated all central universities funded by it, including the Delhi University, will have to use the new Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores to admit students to undergraduate programmes. The CUET will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) as per directives of UGC.
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will provide a common platform and equal opportunities to candidates across the country, especially those from rural and other remote areas. This was stated by M. Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Looking at the “overwhelming response” from educational institutions, the UGC is now working on extending the CUET to postgraduate programmes offered by central universities, Kumar added.
In an interview with The Print, UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar said that very soon admissions to postgraduate courses will also be conducted through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), “We are working on extending CUET to postgraduate programmes as well. We will soon be announcing this,” he said.
Quoting the UGC Chairman in their report, The Print wrote, “Currently, different universities have their own criteria for postgraduate admissions. While most have their own entrance exams, some also accept graduation marks as a criterion for admission. Bringing in CUET will make the process more uniform, enabling students to apply for different universities through a single portal.”
As per the previous notice, CUET 2022 registrations for UG courses are underway and students can register on cuet.samarth.ac.in. The last date to apply for CUET UG admissions is May 6, 2022. CUET 2022 exam schedule is likely to be announced next week. The CUET 2022 will be conducted in 13 languages including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Through CUET 2022, 44 central universities and 18 other universities will be offering admission to their UG programmes.
