2 more Covid-19 patients including 1 from Sonai Road die at SMCH in last 24 hours

47 patients in ICU, 3 in ventilator support & 51 put under oxygen at SMCH

July 19: The Covid-19 situation in Cachar is gradually improving. There has been substantial decline in the number of daily positive cases. However, the last 24 hours (5 PM on 18 July to 5 PM on 19 July) witnessed the death of 02 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Monday evening. One of the deceased is from Cachar district, while the other is from Karimganj. The deceased were identified as:

  • Rajiya Begum from Bandarghat in Karimganj district was admitted at SMCH on 3 July. The patient, however, passed away at 9.15 PM on 18 July.
  • Prabhath Bikram Das (90) from Sonai Road, Silchar got admitted at SMCH on 17 July. He expired at 12.40 AM on 19 July.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 19 July, there were 67 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 47 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 20 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 03 patients were put under ventilator support and 51 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 07 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 15 of them were discharged.
