Candle rally at Silchar against cruelty towards animals

January 27: The recent rise in incidents towards animal cruelty has given rise to deep concern. As a mark of protest, a silent candle rally was taken out at Silchar by animal activists on Sunday evening. With placards in their hands, the activists started their march from Rangirkhari point and went till Premtola, from where they again came back to the point from where they started.

“You are the voice for the voiceless” read the banner which they were holding. The rally was an awareness call to ‘stop animal abuse.’ Speaking to way2barak, one of the young animal activist said, ” We have organised this rally to protest the recent incidents of rising cruelty towards animals. Our main endeavour is to spread awareness and a message that people should choose love instead of stones while dealing with animals.” He further criticised in strong words the incident of mercilessly killing around 16 puppies by two nursing students at Kolkata.

It needs mention here that 2 nursing students Soma Barman and Moutushi Mondol of Nilratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital were held a few days back in connection with killing 16 puppies in the hospital premises. It was reported that the students had planned the murder. They lured the puppies from different corners of the hostel with biscuits and, once they were inside the hostel backyard, all exits were blocked as the two women went about their job of killing the puppies cruelly. They disposed off the dead puppies in garbage bags.

The silent candle march at Silchar gave a strong message for those who inflict upon cruelty towards animals and thereby restrain them from such beastly behaviour in the future.
