82 detected Covid +ve in Cachar till 6 PM on Monday, 208 discharged & 2 deaths at SMCH

Active cases 1,620 in Cachar on Monday

June 21:  A total of 82 new cases of COVID-19 was reported till 6 PM on Monday in Cachar. The number of positive cases is expected to rise towards the night. During the day, 8,142 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done in which 82 were found positive, whereas the RT-PCR test reports were not updated by the health department and will be intimated later during the night. This was informed by DIPRO Cachar on Monday evening. Also, 208 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged during the day. At present, there are 1,620 active cases in the district. It needs mention here that 98 persons were detected Covid-19 positive on Sunday.

“It is known that the rate of contamination is high in Cachar district. Naturally, if in the next two days, the rate of contamination in Cachar continues to be high, then it would definitely be discussed in the cabinet meeting scheduled on Wednesday. If the cabinet feels that there is a necessity of declaring complete lockdown in Cachar, then the same would be declared.” This was stated by state Cabinet Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, while speaking with the journalists in Hailakandi on Monday afternoon.

Moreover, the new Covid SOP released by Assam Government on Monday to be effective from 22 June stated, “Districts where the total number of cumulative cases and per day cases are still showing persistently high numbers, especially Cachar, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur and Nagaon will be under close watch. In case, there is no improvement in the COVID status in these districts, stricter restrictions may follow.” In Cachar district, shops and business establishments etc will close at 12 noon and Covid curfew will continue here in Cachar from 1 PM to 5 AM.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 20 June to 5 PM on 21 June) witnessed demise of 02 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the two deceased, one of them is from Cachar, while the other is from Karimganj .

The deceased were identified as Rakhal Chandra Dey (76) from Kathal Road in Cachar district and Riaz-ul Haque (05) from Kanishail in Karimganj.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 21 June, there were 122 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 71 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 51 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 10 patients were put under ventilator support and 92 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 15 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 26 of them were discharged.
