Covaxin for children above 2 years likely to be available by Sept: AIIMS Director
June 23: Director of Delhi AIIMS Dr. Randeep Guleria, a leading pulmonologist and crucial member of the government’s task force on Covid-19 told that Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin vaccine’s data for children aged 2 to 17 years after completion of Phase 2/3 trials will be available by September and the approval is expected same month. He added that the Pfizer-BioNTech shot, if approved in India, could be another alternative for children to be vaccinated with.
It needs mention here that Covaxin is being trialled in children, aged between 2 and 17, at AIIMS Delhi and Patna. On May 12, the DCGI had granted permission to Bharat Biotech to carry out phase 2, phase 3 trials of Covaxin on children as young as two.
