Court denies bail to Union Minister’s son in Lakhimpur incident in which 4 farmers died

Oct. 14: Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra was on Wednesday denied bail in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, wherein atleast 8 people including 4 farmers lost their lives. Senior prosecution officer SP Yadav told news agency that Ashish Mishra and his alleged accomplice Ashish Pandey had moved their bail applications on Wednesday, but Chief Judicial Magistrate Chinta Ram rejected turned them down.

Ashish was arrested on October 9 by the special investigation team (SIT) probing the case after more than 12 hours of intense interrogation, and had been sent to 3-day police custody starting Tuesday. With this, the total number of people who have been arrested in connection with the incident has gone to six.

As of now, police has arrested Ashish Mishra, Luvkush, Ashish Pandey, Bharti, Ankit and Kale – in connection with the gruesome incident on October 3 in which eight people were killed, including four farmers, after they were mowed down by a vehicle allegedly driven by Ashish Mishra. Two Bharatiya Janata Party workers, a driver of the Union minister and a journalist were among the others killed in the violence.
