Facebook officially changes its company name to ‘Meta’
Oct. 29: In a latest development, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s on Thursday made an announcement that he’s changing his company’s name to Meta Platforms Inc. Facebook’s new name Meta is Greek for “beyond,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said at the event. He said the decision to rename Facebook was made to “reflect who we are and what we hope to build,” referring to the company’s plans to focus on the “metaverse.” A blue infinity symbol-like logo accompanied the new name.
“Metaverse,” a virtual computer-generated space where people can interact. It includes other growing businesses that aren’t its namesake site, such as virtual reality hardware branch Oculus and Horizon Worlds, virtual reality software that’s still in beta testing mode. Facebook Inc. also owns Instagram and WhatsApp, among other mobile apps.
