Coronavirus cases in India cross 50,000-mark, Maharashtra on top with 16,758 cases

May 7: The nationwide tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 52,987 on Thursday morning with Maharashtra leading the chart with a total number of 16,758 confirmed cases. The state figures take the number of deaths up from 1,694 to 1,785. More than 14,000 people have recovered. (Data Source: covid19india.org).

While Maharashtra has reported the maximum number of cases and fatalities, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and Punjab are among other major states affected badly. The recovery rate of patients stood at 28.71 per cent. The first case of Covid-19 was found in China in December 2019, while its first case in India was found on January 30 in Kerala.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in the world has crossed 37 lakh and the death toll is more than 2.52 lakh with the US being the most-affected country.
