10 days total lockdown in districts where Covid cases are high, asserts Himanta Biswa Sarma
June 20: As the Covid-19 cases in atleast 5 to 6 districts of Assam are still not under control, there are chances that the state government might go for strict restrictions including complete lockdown for atleast 10 days. This was indicated by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma while interacting with the media. He further added that the district-wise Covid situation will be discussed and analysed on 23 June. A decision in this connection will be taken only after the review of the Covid situation in the districts.
However, there are chances that lockdown may be imposed in Sonitpur, Dibrugarh, Cachar, Nagaon, Tinsukia, Golaghat, Jorhat and Biswanath. Sources revealed that the number of Covid cases in these districts have not improved much. As such, total lockdown may be imposed in any or a few or all of these districts, subject to review by the Cabinet on 23 June.
With the swearing-in of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led state government, he has made it customary to hold the Cabinet meeting on every Wednesday. So it is expected that the final call on the matter of relaxations or imposing stricter restrictions including lockdown will be taken in the next Cabinet meeting on 23 June (Wednesday).
The new Covid-19 guidelines issued on 6 June specifically stated that the “Districts where the total number of cumulative cases and per day cases are still showing persistently high numbers, especially Cachar, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur and Nagaon will be under close watch till 21 June, 2021. In case, there is no improvement in the COVID status in these districts, stricter restrictions may follow.”
Curfew hours and related restrictions relaxed step by step in districts with declining #COVID19 positivity & active cases. Stricter curfew and containment measures proposed in districts not improving by 21st Jun.
