Congress delegation pelted marbles by Mizo miscreants; ‘Non-Mizos go back’ slogan raised

Nov. 8: A Congress delegation led by Debabrata Saikia, Leader of the Opposition in Assam Legislative Assembly went to Assam – Mizoram border at Lailapur on Sunday morning to take stock of the prevailing situation. The delegation comprised of All India Mahla Congress President Sushmita Dev, General Secretary of APCC Pankaj Barbara, MLA of North Karimganj Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, former Minister Ajit Singh & Siddeque Ahmed among others.

However, barricades were built and they were stopped proceeding further by the Mizo Police. Suddenly, catapults were used by Mizo miscreants and marbles were pelted at the delegation. Expressing her views Congress leader Sushmita Dev said, “Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Debabrata Saikia came to take stock of the border issue with prior information to the Chief Secretary. Even the top official of Assam Police was informed in black and white about this visit by CLP leader. But it’s indeed a strange fact that we were not able to enter the territory of Assam as the Mizoram Police was threatening us to go back.”

Saying so, Sushmita Dev showing taking marbles in her hand showed newsmen present there as to how the Mizo miscreants were using catapults to pelt marbles at the delegation. She said, “I want Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal should see these marbles. This is the law and order situation in Assam. Now for walking in the lands of Assam you need to be target of stone pelting of the Mizos. It’s more strange because the Joint Secretary of Government of India came here, there was Chief Secretary level talks between the two states, but all turned to be failures.”

Later on taking to her Facebook Page, Sushmita Dev wrote, “The Assam Mizoram border dispute needs political solution. This video is taken a few kilometers into Assam from Mizoram border and they are telling citizens of Assam – non Mizos go back. And they are saying Mizoram is a country.

Taking a dig at the NEDA, Sushmita Dev said, “NEDA is no more North East Democratic Alliance, it is rather North East Disaster Alliance. And the king of this disaster alliance is Himanta Biswa Sarma. He is busy in dancing during elections but when people of Assam are in distress, he is sitting in pensive mood as he is not able to become the Chief Minister. Moreover, the governance of Sonowal is a big zero.”
