Irregularities over ₹ 100 cr unearthed in IT raids on renowned doctors of Assam

Jan. 12: Unexplained investment, receipts, expenses exceeding Rs 100 crore have been unearthed during the search operation conducted by the Income Tax department among doctors and other healthcare professionals across 29 locations in Guwahati,  Nalabari, and Dibrugarh on 8 January. During the search and seizure operation conducted by the IT Department, several out-of-book transactions were discerned.

According to reports, the main allegations against the groups were that they had grossly understated their medical receipts both in their individual capacities and the turnovers in their hospitals/nursing homes, diagnostic centres, and pharmaceutical businesses. Apart from this, the net profit shown in the medical and pharma business is also extremely low. Total cash of approximately Rs 7.54 crore was seized by the department from various residential and business premises of the medical professionals and their allied business.
