CM’s of Assam & Mizoram met Amit Shah, resolved to maintain peace at the border

Nov. 26: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at New Delhi and discussed the inter-state border issue. Expressing his views, Assam Chief Minister stated, “Heartening to share that I along with HCM Mizoram Sri Zoramthanga met Hon HM Sri AmitShah this evening in New Delhi. We reaffirmed our resolve to maintain peace and tranquility at our borders.”

Dr Sarma further stated, “It has been decided that both the states will constitute committees for resolving the border disputes through discussions. Towards this end, Chief Ministers’ level talks will also take place from time to time. We’re grateful to Union HM for his kind guidance and support.”

Amid bad blood between the two neighboring states, the Chief Ministers of Assam and Mizoram met in New Delhi on Thursday evening to sort out the border issues. Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga today met Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister for Agriculture and Veterinary, Atul Bora at Assam House in New Delhi.

The 165 km Assam-Mizoram border has many stretches of dispute which have time and again led to clashes between civilians and police forces. Recently 6 Assam Police personnel were killed by Mizo forces in one such border clash.
