Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurates various schemes in Guwahati
July 25: In what shall be a major boost to Assam and North East India’s cancer treatment infrastructure, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the new radiation therapy block and linear accelerator machine at State Cancer Institute, Guwahati in presence of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma and Health Minister Shri Keshab Mahanta on Sunday. The radiation therapy block and linear accelerator machine at State Cancer Institute, Guwahati has been built in the campus of Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH).
Home Minister dedicated the newly installed Linear Accelerator machine at the institute to the people. State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta stated that this infrastructural development will be a major boon to the people of the Northeastern states. Taking to his twitter handle, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “My gratitude to Hon HM. I am confident that this will augment our fight against cancer and bring succor to patients. Having been at the helm of this project as erstwhile Health Minister, this is a matter of personal happiness to see this come through.”

Later on during the day, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah also launched various schemes including ceremonial launch of Prarthana programme, to provide relief of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of those who died of Covid-19. He also laid the foundation stone of Tamulpur Medical College in a virtual mode.
Speaking during the occasion, Home Minister Shah said, “Under visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bodoland Agreement was done. And I am glad that we’ve already delivered 90% of conditions of the agreement. Prime Minister Modi is passionate about North East and focussed on development. Is it any surprise that today there are 5 ministers in our Cabinet from the region. It’s also unprecedented that the PM has visited North East 35 times in last 7 years.”
“We are committed to protecting and preserving Assam’s language, its heritage, and glorious culture. The language, dialects, cuisines, and cultural traditions of Assam and North East are India’s jewels and we need to preserve these,” added the Home Minister. Earlier during the day, the Home Minister along with the Chief Minister and other ministers of Assam visited the Kamakhya temple.
