Centenary drive: Plantation programme undertaken by Amibicapur Purbapara & Hospital Road Durga Puja Committee
June 4: As a part of the year long celebration of the centenary celebration of Amibicapur Purbapara & Hospital Road Durga Puja Committee, a plantation drive was undertaken by its members on Tuesday on the eve of World Environment Day. Saplings were planted on the day at Satindra Mohan Dev Civil Hospital, G.C. College, Silchar, Kulada Sundari Patshala, Durga Shankar Patshala and Tarun Sangha Club.
Speaking to way2barak, Tamal Kanti Banik, Secretary of the centenary celebration committee said, “We have undertaken a pledge to conduct an event every month the whole year around. This is our third drive. We have planted saplings at different venues.today. Environmental pollution leading to global warming is mainly caused due to increase in the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The only way to save our beloved planet is to plant more and more trees.”
It needs mention here that the centenary celebration was inaugurated on the 1st day of the Bengali year (Poila Baisakh) by offering Puja. As part of the second phase of the centenary celebration of Amibicapur Purbapara & Hospital Road Durga Puja Committee, its members have gone to Silchar Crematorium and offered floral tribute to the Language Martyrs. A free Health Camp consisting of Medicine, ENT, Eye, Dental, Pediatric Departments was also organised at Palki Banquet Hall, Hospital Road, Silchar, by the committee in which 240 patients were examined by reputed physicians.
The celebration committee was also contemplating to celebrate the birth centenary of legendary musician and singer Hemanta Mukherjee on 15 June. It would be a musical tribute to this great musician. The details of this third phase of centenary celebration programme will be notified soon by the committee.
