CDS Gen Bipin Rawat cremated with full military honour, last rites performed by daughters

Dec. 10: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat was laid to final rest with full military honours. His last rites were performed along with his wife Madhulika Rawat, who too lost her life in a chopper crash in Tamil Nadu. Kritika and Tarini, their daughters performed their last rites. The General and his wife were among the 13 people who died in the crash.

Earlier today, after the bodies of the General and his wife were brought to the crematorium, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stood in silent tribute as military bugles sounded in the background. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also paid his respects, as did high-ranking officers from foreign friendly nations. Politicians cutting across party lines also came to express their grief, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.

As the flames rose, a 17-gun salute was accorded the Gen Rawat. The elaborate funeral ceremony involved 800 military personnel, in line with established protocol.
