Cachar Admin sets up 24×7 flood health response centre

way2barak, July 23:— With the water level of the River Barak and its tributaries continuing to rise across parts of Cachar district, the Health Department has established a 24×7 Flood Control Room at the Urban Primary Health Centre (PHC), Trunk Road, Silchar to ensure uninterrupted health services and swift emergency response during the flood season.

The Flood Control Room has been constituted with immediate effect under an office order issued by the Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar, and will remain operational until further orders. A dedicated helpline, 9394615401, has also been activated to facilitate prompt communication and coordination during flood-related medical emergencies.

A team of Multi-Purpose Workers (MPWs) drawn from Sonai, Borkhola, Digorkashipur, Dholai, Lakhipur, Udharbond and Harinagar health institutions has been assigned to man the control room in carefully planned shifts, ensuring uninterrupted functioning throughout the day and night. The roster covers morning, afternoon and overnight duties on different days of the week so that emergency calls and health related requirements receive immediate attention.

Health officials said the control room will serve as the district’s central coordination point for monitoring flood related health situations, responding to public queries, facilitating deployment of medical teams wherever required, and maintaining close communication with health institutions and field functionaries. The arrangement is expected to support timely delivery of medical assistance in areas affected by rising water levels.

The department has appealed to residents to make use of the dedicated helpline in case of any flood related medical emergency or urgent health assistance. Officials have also advised people living in vulnerable and low-lying areas to remain alert, follow advisories issued by the district administration, and seek medical help without delay whenever necessary.

The Health Department has affirmed that all necessary arrangements are being kept in place to ensure uninterrupted emergency medical support for the people of Cachar throughout the flood period.
