Ram Vilas Paswan to replace Manmohan Singh as Rajya Sabha member from Assam

February 10: Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief & Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan is all set to be appointed as National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA’s) Rajya Sabha candidate from Assam. As per sources, Paswan, backed by the BJP, will be sent to Upper House from Assam in May 2019 after  prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh retiires as Rajya Sabha member from Assam in April 2019.

Interestingly, Paswan was a part of all the national coalitions – the United Front, the National Democratic Alliance and the United Progressive Alliance -, which have formed Government in India from 1996 to 2015. He was elected as a member of 16th Lok Sabha after the 2014 Indian general election from Hajipur constituency, Bihar.

 

Paswan is an eight-time Lok Sabha member and former Rajya Sabha member also. He is also the President of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).

As per the seat-sharing deal with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Lok Janshakti Party has six MPs from Bihar, and will be given five seats out of 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar to contest during 2019 parliamentary election.
