Women’s College, Silchar celebrates National Girl Child Day

Jan. 24: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Women’s College, Silchar organised a brief meeting at the college premises on the occasion of National Girl Child Day to disseminate awareness among the students on the steps taken by the Government under the Ministry of Women & Child Development to provide support and opportunities to the girls of the country.

Elaborating on the objectives of National Girl Child Day, programme officer of the NSS unit of Women’s college Dr Sanghamitra Debnath, said, “It’s indeed essential for the girls to know about their responsibilities and capacities towards nation-building. They need to realise and manifest the latent talents and use this for the welfare of the society.” The occasion was celebrated by adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines and following Covid appropriate behaviour.

Dr Debnath further informed that selfies with parents of student volunteers were uploaded on their respective social media pages as well. This was done as per the directions received from NSS Regional Directorate at Guwahati.The National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India every year on 24 January. It was initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the government of India, in order to spread public awareness about inequities that girls face in Indian society.
