Bike borne miscreants snatches ₹ 3 lakh from a girl in broad daylight at Itkhola
Jan. 12: It’s another incident of snatching away money by bike borne miscreants in the valley. This time the incident again occurred at broad day light at Itkhola in Silchar. The horrific incident took place on Tuesday evening at Swamiji Road which is adjacent to Cachar district BJP headquarters.
As per reports, one Subol Chandra Deb, a retired employee of BSNL was renovating his house at Swamiji Road, Itkhola. For this purpose, he required to withdraw money from his bank account. Mr. Dey along with his young daughter Sarbani Deb went to the Park Road branch of State Bank of India (SBI). Their they had withdrawn Rs. 3 lakh and the father- daughter duo took a rickshaw for their home.
However, they hardly knew at that time that the greatest shock of their lifetime was awaiting for them. The moment they got down from the rickshaw, two bike borne miscreants came near them and before they could understand anything, the pillion rider snatched the bag containing Rs.3 lakh from the hands of Sarbani Deb. Though she was not prepared for this, yet instantly she also tried her level best not to leave the bag and gave a good fight. In the attempt to save the bag, the speeding motorbike dragged her on the ground. Ultimately, she lost her grip and the miscreants were successful in snatching away the bag containing the money. The micreants were on a black pulsar motorcycle.
The girl received multiple injuries when she was dragged on the road. The incident took place at such a pace that her father Subol Chandra Deb failed to make any move. The girl was later on taken to a private hospital for treatment. She was traumatized to such an extent that she was even not able to speak properly. Passers by and shopkeepers from the vicinity rushed hearing her screams. They tried to locate the bike borne miscreants but in vain.
Meanwhile, a police complaint was also lodged. A police team came to the spot and took the statement of the victim and the other passers-by. Additional Police Super Jagadish Das and in-charge of Silchar Police Station Ditumoni Goswami too came to the spot and started their investigation. Speaking to newsmen, the investigating officer informed that they are looking into the matter with utmost priority.
Post-lockdown, such incidents of money, mobile and chain snatching have increased in all the three districts of Barak Valley. Local residents expressed deep anguish over such repeated incidents of robbery in Silchar. They demanded that strict vigil should be done by the police so that such anti-social elements could be nabbed at the earliest.
