Barak Valley registers 77 Covid +ve cases on Sunday, 172 discharged & 2 deaths at SMCH
There are 1,140 active Covid cases in Barak Valley
July 4: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Sunday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was considerably less. A total of 77 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 172 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 1,140 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Saturday, Barak Valley registered 152 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Sunday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 41 positive cases (It was 73 on Saturday)
- Karimganj: 31 positive cases (It was 70 on Saturday)
- Hailakandi: 05 positive cases (It was 09 on Saturday)
A total of 41 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Sunday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 2,472 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 19 persons were found positive, whereas 22 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 17,865, whereas during this phase, 17,172 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 524. Also, 98 patients were discharged during the day. Though the number of Covid-19 positive cases in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam has considerably decreased, yet incidents of death of Covid positive patients are still reported from the three districts of Southern Assam. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 3 July to 5 PM on 4 July) witnessed demise of 02 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the two deceased, one of them is from Cachar, while the other is from Hailakandi .
The deceased were identified as Madhusudhan Singha (80) from Vivekananda Road in Silchar and Kutan Rabidas (18) from Lala, Ward No.2 in Hailakandi district.
Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 4 July, there were 124 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 52 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 72 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 16 patients were put under ventilator support and 88 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 26 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 10 of them were discharged.
Hailakandi registered 05 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. Of the 05 positive cases detected on Sunday, all of them have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and no person was detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 108 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 340 RAT tests and 150 RT-PCR tests were done. 11 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,542 (both 1st & 2nd wave). As of now, a total of 4,013 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 09 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Saturday. Till date 46 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district.
Karimganj registered 31 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday. The district has currently 508 active COVID-19 cases, while 63 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Saturday. 1,936 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 70 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Saturday.
On Sunday, out of 53,848 tests, 1,213 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,17,194. The positivity rate in the state is 2.25 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 140 positive cases during the day. Further, on Sunday, 20 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,652. The recovery rate is 94.56 percent. On Sunday, 2,775 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,89,040 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 22,155 active cases in the state.
Further, during the day, 20 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 20 deceased, 03 each are from Morigaon & Nagaon; 02 from Dibrugarh; 01 each from Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Darrang, Golaghat, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup Metro, Kamrup Rural, Karbi Anglong & Tinsukia. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,652.
