Barak Valley registers 72 Covid +ve cases on Sunday, 325 discharged

There are 2,007 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 27: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Sunday, the number of fresh cases in the valley considerably less. A total of 72 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 325 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 2,007 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Saturday, Barak Valley registered 192 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Sunday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 48 positive cases   (It was 114 on Saturday)
  • Karimganj: 20 positive cases (It was 55 on Saturday)
  • Hailakandi: 04 positive cases (It was 23 on Saturday)

 A total of 48 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Sunday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 2,216 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 26 persons were found positive, whereas 22 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 17,428, whereas during this phase, 16,284 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 979.  Also, 216 patients were discharged during the day.  Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley for more than a month. However, the last 24 hours (5 PM on 26 June to 5 PM on 27 June) did not witness the demise of any Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. This is ofcourse a ray of hope. On 25 June also, after 41 days, none died at SMCH due to Covid-19.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 27 June, there were 132 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 55 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 77 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 11 patients were put under ventilator support and 70 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 12 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 18 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered only 04 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. Of the 04 positive cases detected on Sunday, 03 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas 01 was detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 256 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 592 RAT tests and 62 RT-PCR tests were done. 41 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,467. As of now, a total of 3,792 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 23 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Saturday.

Karimganj registered 20 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday. The district has currently 772 active COVID-19 cases, while 68 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Sunday. 3,299 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 55 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Saturday.

On Sunday, out of 55,131 tests, 1,523 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,00,644. The positivity rate in the state is 2.76 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 149 positive cases during the day. Further, on Sunday, 37 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,440. The recovery rate is 93.69 percent. On Sunday, 3,261 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,69,067 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.  At present, there are 25,790 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 37 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 37 deceased, 07 each are from Dibrugarh & Jorhat; 05 from Sonitpur; 03 each from Golaghat & Tinsukia; 02 from Goalpara; 01 each from Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Chirang, Hailakandi, Kamrup Metro, Majuli, Morigaon, Sivasagar & Udalguri. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,440.
