Barak Valley registers 400 Covid +ve cases on Sunday, 457 discharged & 3 deaths at SMCH

There are 5,727 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 6: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Sunday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 400 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Saturday, Barak Valley registered 485 positive cases. Further, during the day, 457 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three  districts of the valley. At present, there are 5,727 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Sunday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 301 positive cases   (It was 353 on Saturday)
  • Karimganj: 31 positive cases (It was 70 on Saturday)
  • Hailakandi: 68 positive cases (It was 62 on Saturday)

A total of 301 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Saturday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 9,405 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 212 persons were found positive, whereas 89 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 12,873 whereas during this phase, 9,462 patients were discharged.

Also, 315 patients were discharged after getting cured during the day. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 3,290.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 5 June to 5 PM on 6 June) witnessed demise of 02 Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the 3 deceased, 02 are from Cachar district, while 01 is from Hailakandi.

The deceased were identified as Gyas Uddin Choudhury (55) from Hailakandi, Dinomoni Singha (76) from Dolu in Cachar and Safa Begum Barbhuiya (55) from Kabuganj in Cachar.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 6 June, there were 248 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 98 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 150 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 27 patients were put under ventilator support and 142 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 37 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 24 of them were discharged. Further, 48 of them have opted for home isolation.

Hailakandi registered 68 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. Of the 68 positive cases detected on Sunday, 56 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 12 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 1,281 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,734 RAT tests and 122 RT-PCR tests were done. 98 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 6,739. As of now, 2,134 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 62 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Saturday.

As of now, in the 56,819 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 16,765 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 31 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday. The district has currently 1,156 active COVID-19 cases, while 44 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Saturday. 2,478 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 70 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Saturday.

On Sunday, out of 73,648 tests, 2,228 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,34,942. The positivity rate in the state is 3.03 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 309 positive cases during the day. Further, on Sunday, 37 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,658. The recovery rate is 86.46 percent. The recovery rate in the state is 87.46 percent. At present, there are 49,518 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 37 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 37 deceased, 06 are from Tinsukia, 04 from Sonitpur; 03 each from Cachar, Kamrup Metro & Nagaon; 02 each from Darrang, Sivasagar & Udalguri; 01 each from Baksa, Biswanath, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Charaideo, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Hailakandi, Kamrup Rural, Karbi Anglong & Lakhimpur. The death tally of the state now stands at 3,658.
