Barak Valley registers 340 positive cases on Monday
August 17: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Sunday, the number of fresh cases again was on the rise in the valley. A total of 340 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Sunday, Barak Valley registered 268 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Sunday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 236 positive cases (It was 161 on Sunday)
- Karimganj: 66 positive cases (It was 74 on Sunday)
- Hailakandi: 38 positive cases (It was 33 on Sunday)
On Monday, once again, the number of coronavirus cases in Cachar increased. Cachar registered 236 fresh cases of COVID-19, out of which, 215 persons were detected positive as per Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 21 of them were found positive in RT-PCR Test. A total of 1473 rapid tests were done in the district on Monday. With this, the district tally of coronavirus positive cases has reached 4473 as of now.
With a view to providing medical assistance and counselling to the COVID-19 patients who opt for home isolation, a telemedicine centre has been set up at SM Dev Civil Hospital. Any COVID-19 patient under home isolation can contact telemedicine centre No.7099248937 for any health-related queries.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy, while interacting with newsmen at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) told that a 50-bedded ICU will soon come up at SMCH within the next 10 days. He further added that around 60 general beds in Covid Ward shall be increased soon.
Another four persons died at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) during the last 24 hours. As per sources at SMCH, their details were forwarded to State Death Audit Board in Guwahati. Out of the four deceased, 2 of them were certified by the Board as Covid-deaths, whereas the report of another two are awaited. With this, the Covid-19 death tally of the district has now gone upto 13. The four deceased are: Jibon Roy (45), Mozibur Islam Hazari (57), Niva Rani Paul (75) and Abhinandan Orang (15 Months)
38 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been detected under Rapid Antigen Test from Hailakandi district on Monday, taking the total tally to 1,687. Altogether 790 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,227 persons on being cured have been released from hospitals.The number of active cases is 449.
Four COVID-19 positive patients succumbed to the disease while seven deaths have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board. 15 persons are currently under facility quarantine centres while 6,524 under home quarantine. 89 asymptomatic COVID-19 patients are under home isolation.
Karimganj district registered 66 new COVID-19 positive cases on Monday. Out of 66 positive cases, 46 were detected in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 20 were found positive in RT-PCR Test. Till now, 1605 persons were detected as coronavirus positive in Karimganj, out of which, 771 patients have recovered. At present, there are 815 active cases in the district. A total of 798 rapid tests were done in Karimganj on Monday.
Apart from the valley, a total of 2792 persons tested positive in Assam on Monday, thereby taking the state tally to 79,667. As of now, there are 22,733 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1519 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 56,734 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 8 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 197.
With more than 57,000 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 count on Monday crossed the 26.47 lakh-mark, while the death toll has crossed the 50,000-mark as well. At 9:30 AM on this day, the COVID-19 tally in the country has reached 26,47,664 cases, which include 6,76,900 active cases; 19,19,843 cured, discharged, or migrated patients, and 50,921 deaths. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as many as 57,982 new COVID-19 cases and 941 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, marking a significant spike.
