Barak Valley registers 310 positive cases on Thursday

August 6: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Thursday, the number of fresh cases again was on the rise in the valley. A total of 310 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 205 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 187 positive cases (It was 93 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 79 positive cases (It was 69 on Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 44 positive cases (It was 43 on Wednesday)

With 187 new cases of COVID-19 positive on Thursday, Cachar recorded a total of 2353 cases of coronavirus as of now. A large number of positive cases on Thursday were detected through contact tracing. Apart from this, cases on account of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) were also also found during the day. On Thursday, 30 positive cases were detected in 3 slots of RT-PCR Test whereas 157 were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).

Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert said that the district health department has stepped up Rapid Antigen test (RAT). He said, “Many new cases are now coming up as we have intensified rapid testing of persons in various places. Earlier, there was one screening centre at Urban PHC in Trunk Road. Now, we have also started another screening centre at Teachers Training College (T.T. College), Hailakandi Road, Silchar. We are also doing rapid test in various market areas of the district.”

Earlier, in another meeting with the journalists, ADC Sumit Sattawan, who holds the charge of the Health department said that after examination of about 40 people in Silchar’s Fatak Bazaar three days ago, 10 corona positive cases came out which is a matter of serious concern.

Further, the District Media Expert, Suman Choudhury disclosed that , “Two PG students at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) who are from outside Assam donated plasma on Thursday. The plasma received from these two persons can save lives of atleast 4 COVID patients. The 2 students who donated plasma are Guesnar KB and Nagesh CS. The plasma separation machine was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jally at SMCH in presence of the Principal and Superintendent of SMCH.”

On Thursday, 44 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district, taking the total tally to 1185. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 44 positive cases detected on Thursday, 41 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). A total of 347 cases have been found positive under RAT so far with majority of them without travel history. 11 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals on Thursday, taking the total number of persons released to 878.The number of active cases in the district is currently 299.

Karimganj district registered a biggest spike of 79 COVID-19 positive cases on Thursday. This takes the district tally to 1034. Apart from this, 43 persons were discharged in Karimganj.

Apart from the valley, a total of 2372 persons tested positive in Assam on Thursday, thereby taking the state tally to 52,817. As of now, there are 15,464 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1332 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 37,224 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 5 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 126.

India’s coronavirus tally breached the 20 lakh-mark on Thursday, while recoveries surged to 13.7 lakh. India is only the third country after the United States and Brazil to have hit this grim milestone. India saw a single-day spike of 56,282 infections, taking its Covid-19 caseload to 19,64,536, while the death toll climbed to 40,699 with 904 new fatalities being reported in a 24-hour span, as per the data provided by the the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday. As per covid19india.org, India recorded 20,25,409 cases on Thursday night.
