Barak Valley registers 226 Covid +ve cases on Sunday, 713 discharged & 3 deaths at SMCH

There are 4,217 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 13: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Sunday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was much less. A total of 226 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day.  Further, during the day, 713 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three  districts of the valley. At present, there are 4,217 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Saturday, Barak Valley registered 417 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Sunday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 150 positive cases   (It was 251 on Saturday)
  • Karimganj: 42 positive cases (It was 109 on Saturday)
  • Hailakandi: 34 positive cases (It was 57 on Saturday)

 A total of 150 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Sunday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 5,912 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 101 persons were found positive, whereas 49 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test.  With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 15,013 whereas during this phase, 12,437 patients were discharged. Also, 474 patients were discharged on Sunday. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 2,432.  Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 12 June to 5 PM on 13 June) witnessed demise of 03 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. All the three deceased are from Cachar district.

The deceased were identified as Mritunjoy Kanti Roy (60) from Gorer Bhitor Part-II in Cachar, Sitangshu Shekhar Das Purkayastha (81) from Tarapur Chandmari, Silchar and Pulok Das (48) from Kumbhirgram in Cachar district.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 13 June, there were 178 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 79 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 99 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 19 patients were put under ventilator support and 127 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 31 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 44 of them were discharged. Further, 10 of them have opted for home isolation.

Hailakandi registered 34 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. Of the 34 positive cases detected on Sunday, 29 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 05 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 761 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,816 RAT tests and 169 RT-PCR tests were done. 87 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,132. As of now, a total of 2,962 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 57 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Saturday.

As of now, in the 59,670 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 17,372 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 42 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday. The district has currently 1,024 active COVID-19 cases, while 152 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Sunday. 2,495 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 109 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Saturday.

On Sunday, out of 1,00,455 tests, 2,167 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,59,497. The positivity rate in the state is 2.16 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 226 positive cases during the day. Further, on Sunday, 36 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,951. The recovery rate is 90.14 percent. It needs mention here that on Saturday, 3,666 persons tested positive in Assam and 29 deaths were registered.
