‘Barak Valley has artists of high caliber,’ says Dheeraj Yadav at Shilpangan Workshop

January 2: Shilpangan, a Silchar based art institute, is dedicated towards bringing changes in the world of art & culture of this valley. Recently, Shilpangan, in collaboration with New Delhi based foundation JOOKTO, organized a 3-day “Workshop on New Media Art” at Daffodils School, Malugram. Participants from all over the region participated in the Workshop which highlighted the different paraphernalia of perennial Art.

Dheeraj Yadav, national award winning artist from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, displayed an illuminating and enlightening presentation of his works. Binoy Paul, Ph.D scholar, Department of Visual Arts, Assam University, Silchar was the Coordinator of the New Media Art Workshop. The inaugural ceremony of this grand and unique workshop was held on 28 December. The programme began with lighting of the lamp by Dheeraj Yadav.

Among others who spoke on the occasion included Prasenjit Roy Choudhury, Secretary, Sanskar Bharati Purvottar, Santanu Sutradhar Entrepreneur, Tapojyoti Bhattacharjee, President of Shilpangan, Ashok varma, Secretary of Shilpangan, Subrata Dey, Principal -Daffodils School, Debeyendu Dey, Secretary – Daffodils School, Joydeep Chakraborty, Coordinator – Jookto, Manisha Kumari, a freelance artist from New Delhi.

20 young artists of this valley participated in this workshop which concluded on 30 December. In the valedictory ceremony, Dr. Ganesh Nandi, Assistant Professor, Deptt of Visual Art, Assam University, was the Chief Guest. In his concluding speech, Dheeraj Yadav stated that during the workshop he found “Barak Valley is having high level of talent in the field of Art which is required to be nurtured properly. With the requisite grooming and guidance, potential juniors can surely shine even at the national level.” The workshop produced 20 noteworthy art creations as an outcome. Along with these art works, one site-specific art work was also done in the premises of Daffodils School with the participants.

It needs mention here that ‘Shilpangan’ has been working for promoting the  good sense of  culture and art of  Silchar town relentlessly since its inception. Sandipan Dutta Purkayastha, Principal of Shilpangan thanked all for making ‘New Media Workshop’ a grand success.
