AUNTEA Meets MLA Kishor Nath Demanding Repair of Road

way2barak, June 15: A delegation of the Assam University Non-Teaching Employees’ Association (AUNTEA) met local MLA Kishor Nath on Monday to demand the repair and renovation of the Silchar–Assam University Road. During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the deplorable condition of the road, the daily difficulties faced by commuters, and the hardships experienced by students, teachers, and employees of the university. Particular attention was drawn to the severely damaged stretch from Bariknagar onwards, which poses a constant risk of accidents.

After listening attentively to the concerns raised by the delegation, MLA Kishor Nath informed them that a comprehensive road reconstruction project worth approximately ₹80 crore has already been approved. However, he noted that the commencement of the project may take another three to four months due to the completion of various administrative and technical procedures.
To provide immediate relief to the public during this period, the MLA assured the delegation that patchwork and temporary repair work on the most damaged sections of the road would be initiated at the earliest. He also stated that he would coordinate with the concerned departments to ensure that necessary measures are taken without delay.

Describing the meeting as highly positive and productive, AUNTEA expressed satisfaction with the assurances provided by the MLA. The delegation comprised Association President Debashis Chakraborty, Vice-President Lalon Prasad Yadav, Assistant General Secretary Kinkar Purkayastha, Treasurer Anupam Choudhury, Assistant Treasurer Kanu Dhar, and members Ranjit Das and Joydeep Chakraborty.

The Association expressed hope that the promised emergency repairs would begin soon and that the completion of the full-scale reconstruction project in the future would provide a permanent solution to a long-standing problem.
It may be noted that the proposal to approach public representatives regarding the road repair issue was raised by committee member Debarshi Dey during a recent meeting of AUNTEA’s Executive Committee. The information was shared through a press release issued by the Association’s General Secretary, Utpal Das.
