Assam University organises workshop on Chemical Hazards and Fire Safety
গবেষণাগারে রাসায়নিক ঝুঁকি নিয়ে কর্মশালা আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ১১ সেপ্টেম্বর : ‘দুর্যোগ ব্যবস্থাপনার সংবেদনশীলতা ও প্রস্তুতি: রাসায়নিক বিপদ এবং অগ্নি নিরাপত্তার ওপর বিশেষ মনোযোগ’ শীর্ষক এক কর্মশালা গতকাল আয়োজিত হল আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে। রসায়ন বিভাগে আয়োজিত এই কর্মশালায় সহায়তার হাত বাড়িয়ে দেয় সমাজকর্ম বিভাগ, ডিস্ট্রিক্ট ডিজাস্টার ম্যানেজমেন্ট অথরিটি ও ন্যাশনাল ডিজাস্টার রেসপন্স ফোর্স। উদ্বোধনী পর্বে উপস্থিত ছিলেন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ, আলবার্ট আইনস্টাইন স্কুল অব ফিজিকাল সায়েন্সেসের ডিন অধ্যাপক করবী দত্ত চৌধুরী সহ অন্যরা। এতে অংশ নেন রসায়ন বিভাগের শতাধিক শিক্ষার্থী ও গবেষক।

কর্মশালার আহ্বায়ক অধ্যাপক দেবাশিস সেনগুপ্ত বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলির গবেষণাগারে রাসায়নিক বিপজ্জনক বিপর্যয়ের ঝুঁকির কথা উল্লেখ করে দুর্যোগ প্রস্তুতির গুরুত্বের ওপর জোর দেন। ড. রত্না হুইরেম দুর্যোগ মোকাবেলার প্রস্তুতির প্রয়োজনীয়তার কথা উল্লেখ করেন এবং বিজ্ঞানীদের প্রযুক্তিগত দক্ষতাকে সামাজিক সচেতনতা ও সমাজকর্মীদের স্থিতিস্থাপকতা তৈরির ক্ষমতার সঙ্গে একত্রিত করার প্রয়োজনীয়তার ওপর জোর দেন।

ঝুঁকি মোকাবিলা কমিটির আহ্বায়ক ড. অমিতাভ ভট্টাচার্য প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক ব্যবস্থা শক্তিশালী করার বিষয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করেন। ভারপ্রাপ্ত বিভাগীয় প্রধান অধ্যাপক সুদীপ চৌধুরী নিয়মিত প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচির প্রয়োজনীয়তার ওপর জোর দেন। অধ্যাপক কাবেরী দত্তচৌধুরী নিরাপদ শৈক্ষিক পরিবেশের প্রতি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রতিশ্রুতি ব্যক্ত করেন। উপাচার্য এই উদ্যোগের প্রশংসা করে সবাইকে দুর্যোগ মোকাবেলার প্রস্তুতি নিয়ে তৎপর ও সজাগ থাকার আহ্বান জানান। শেষে ধন্যবাদ সূচক বক্তব্য পেশ করেন ডঃ কাথিরেসান।

কারিগরি অধিবেশনে রিসোর্স পার্সনরা প্রাক-হাসপাতাল চিকিৎসা ও প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা ব্যবস্থা, রাসায়নিক পোড়া, শ্বাস-প্রশ্বাসের ঝুঁকি ও বিষাক্ত পদার্থের সংস্পর্শ, নিরাপদ স্থানান্তর, অগ্নি নির্বাপক যন্ত্রের ব্যবহার, মৌলিক জীবন সহায়তা কৌশল, সংকটের সময় মানসিক প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসার মতো গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয়গুলি নিয়ে আলোচনা করেন। পরে রসায়ন বিভাগের পরীক্ষাগারে মক ড্রিলের মাধ্যমে কর্মশালা শেষ হয়।

Way2barak, September 11 : A workshop on “Disaster Management Sensitization and Preparedness: Special Focus on Chemical Hazards and Fire Safety” was successfully organized by the Department of Chemistry, Assam University, Silchar, in collaboration with the Department of Social Work, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Cachar, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The programme was graced by the presence of Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Prof. Karabi Dutta Choudhury, Dean, Albert Einstein School of Physical Sciences, and other faculty members. A total of 100 students and scholars of the chemistry department benefitted from this programme.

Convener of the workshop Prof. Devashish Sengupta, underlined the importance of disaster preparedness in academic institutions, especially in laboratories where chemical hazards pose a constant risk. Dr. Ratna Huirem also reiterated the need for preparedness and emphasized the need for combining the technical expertise of scientists with the social awareness and resilience-building capacity of social workers. Dr. Amitabh Bhattacharjee, Convener, RMC, elaborated on strengthening the existing institutional mechanisms. Prof. Choudhury, highlighted the vulnerability of laboratories and stressed on the need for regular training programmes. Prof. K. Dutta Choudhury, expressed the University’s commitment towards a safe academic environment. The Vice Chancellor enthusiastically appreciated the initiative and urged all stakeholders to remain proactive and vigilant towards disaster preparedness. Dr. Kathiresan thanked all present and concluded the inaugural.

The resource persons covered essential such as CPR; pre-hospital treatment and first-aid measures; handling of chemical burns, inhalation hazards, and toxic exposures; safe evacuation protocols; use of fire extinguishers; basic life support techniques, and psychological first-aid during crises. The program culminated with a mock drill in the chemistry laboratory. The NDRF team simulated a scenario involving a chemical spill combined with a fire outbreak. The area was cordoned off, the chemical hazard neutralized, the fire controlled, and “trapped” individuals were safely evacuated. The mock drill vividly demonstrated the importance of preparedness, quick decision-making, response, and teamwork during emergencies.
