Assam University organises Indo-Bhutan Social Science Conference at Royal University of Bhutan

Way2barak, September 7 : The Department of Business Administration of Assam University, in collaboration with the Silchar Management Association and Bhutan’s Paro College of Education, Under Royal University of Bhutan, successfully concluded the hybrid-mode Indo-Bhutan Social Science Conference 2025 that was held at the Paro College of Education from 3-6 September 2025. In a communication shared by the Dean of Management Studies, Prof. H. Ramananda Singh, the event saw participation from 165 institutions across five nations, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Switzerland, marking a significant milestone in international academic collaboration. The conference, themed “Envisioning the Future: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Resilience, Inclusion, Sustainability, Social Transformation, and Saving the Planet”, received an overwhelming response. A record 379 abstracts were submitted, out of which approx. 278 were accepted for both offline and online presentations, including 108 offline and 170 online, ensuring a wide intellectual exchange.

Convenor, Dr Deepjyoti Choudhury, in his address, emphasized that the resounding success of the event stemmed from the global appeal of Bhutan and the academic stature of Brand Assam University. He noted that the collaboration has further strengthened academic and cultural ties between the two nations. The organisers have expressed profound gratitude to Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant for his visionary leadership and unwavering support, which were pivotal to the event’s resounding success. The meticulous efforts of convenor Dr. Deepjyoti Choudhury , and unweavering support of  Co-Convenor Dr. Nilanjana Chakraborty and their team Dr. Juthika Konwar, and Dr. Amit Kumar Das, were lauded, alongside contributions from research scholars, students, and Bhutan coordinator Dr. Lhato Jamba for the impeccable local arrangements.

Convenor Dr Deepjyoti Choudhury said that this is first of kind such conference where an International Conference of Assam University of such magnitude was conducted on a foreign land. He further added that bringing together a large team of delegates from Five countries and specifically India to Bhutan has not been an easy task. The process involved meticulous coordination of travel arrangements, special permits, and documentation, as well as ensuring smooth connectivity and comfortable stay. With delegates coming from different parts of India, aligning schedules, flights, and logistics required immense planning and teamwork. Despite the challenges of limited routes, weather uncertainties and cross-border protocols, the effort has succeeded because of collaborative efforts. The successful organization of the Indo-Bhutan Conference on Social Sciences has not only elevated the reputation of the Department of Business Administration and Assam University but has also brought immense pride and recognition to our entire nation. By bringing together distinguished scholars, researchers, and representatives from five countries, this conference showcased India’s academic strength, its leadership in fostering international collaboration, and its commitment to advancing social sciences. The event demonstrated that India is not just a participant in global academic dialogues but a frontrunner in creating platforms where diverse ideas converge, paving the way for meaningful regional and international cooperation towards shaping a better future for humanity and our planet. Special thanks were extended to faculty members Prof. Anup Dey, Prof. Projit Palit, and Prof. Debotosh Chakraborty for their on-ground academic participation in Bhutan. The participants departed with cherished memories, further solidifying Assam University’s growing academic influence in the South Asian neighbourhood.
