Assam prepared for first phase of Panchayat Election on Wednesday

December 4: State Election Commission of Assam is all geared up for the first phase of Panchayat Elections to be held on Wednesday. A total of 1,56,41,456 voters will exercise their franchise out of which 8,12,38,35 are male and 7,51,76,21 are female voters. A total of 23,505 polling stations will be set up out of which 8243 polling stations have been marked as ‘sensitive’ and 3665 as ‘very sensitive’.

In the first phase, 16 districts will go for polling on December 5. The districts are -Tinsukia, Dibrugrah,Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Majuli,Golaghat, Nagaon, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Morigaon, Kamrup (M) and Kamrup. A total of 1,40,000 civil employees and 1 lakh security personnel will be deployed for the polls. There are 2,200 Gaon panchayats in Assam. Re-polling will take place on December 7 and December 11. Polling will start on 5 December at 7 in the morning and will continue till 5 in the evening. The second and the last phase of Panchayat election will be held on 9 December.
