Assam police seize cannabis smuggled under pretext of essential items, 2 nabbed

April 24: The nationwide lockdown in the backdrop of the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic has brought life to a standstill. Except essential commodities, transaction in others items are not allowed, especially in Assam. But in the pretext of essential commodities some scrupulous elements are busy smuggling contraband items. However, Assam Police is in strict vigil and are up and doing in thwarting any such attempt.

Two persons were on to smuggle cannabis (ganja) wrapping the item in colourful pack and trying to pass these as essential commodities. But they failed to escape the eyes of the policemen. Finally, Biswanath Police in Assam grew suspicious and on opening the pack found contraband item cannabis (ganja) inside. Two persons were nabbed in this connection.

Adding wit and humour, Assam Police wrote in its official Facebook Page, “So, these gentlemen thought that they can smuggle Ganja under the pretext of essential items. There are many items listed under essential commodities, Ganja certainly isn’t one of them. Difficult times or not, we shall not let it ‘puff puff’ n pass! Good catch Biswanath Police.”
