Assam govt initiates urgent enquiry into the allegations against Principal of North Lakhimpur College

Aug. 25: In a purported video that went viral on social media, it could be seen that the Principal of North Lakhimpur College Dr Biman Chandra Chetia in a semi-naked state making a lewd gesture at a girl student. Reacting to this video, students on Thursday staged massive protests against the College Principal.

AASU, TMPK, ABVP, NSUI, AJYP and others staged sit-in protests in front of the college gate and also burnt the effigies of Chetia in North Lakhimpur and demanded his immediate arrest. Lakhimpur AASU has also sent a memorandum to the Education Minister of Assam demanding the immediate removal of Dr Chetia from the post of Principal of North Lakhimpur College wherein they also accused that the Principal of forging his academic documents on earlier occasions.

Meanwhile, taking to his twitter handle on Thursday, state Education Minister Dr Ronoj Pegu wrote, “The Higher Education Department of Assam Govt. has initiated an urgent enquiry into the allegations against the Principal of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous).”
