Assam gets ₹250 cr as grant of assistance from NDRF in the wake of the floods & landslides

way2barak, Sept.16: The issues of occurrence of severe flood and landslides during monsoon 2022 in Assam has been considered in the Ministry of Home Affairs. After examination, it was decided with the approval of Home Minister to release an amount of Rs. 250 crore ‘on account basis’ from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to the State Government of Assam pending finalization of the assessment by Inter Ministerial Central team (IMCT) and recommendation of High Level Committee (HLC). This was stated in an Office Memorandum issued by the Home Ministry on 16 September, 2022.

In view of the above, the Department of Expenditure (Ministry of Finance) was directed to release the above mentioned amount, on an ‘on account’ basis from NDRF, as an interim assistance to the Government of Assam, pending the final assessment of the requirement of funds for immediate relief operations and approval of the HLC thereon, under intimation to the Home Ministry.

Reacting to this, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We are extremely grateful to Adarniya PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Adarniya HM Shri Amit Shah Ji for release of Rs 250 cr from National Disaster Response Fund to help Assam work on rehabilitation & restoration of the damages caused due to massive floods & landslides this year.”
