Assam COVID-19 scenario: Tuesday witnessed 134 new positive cases

Total in Assam rises to 682

May 26: Indeed another frightening day for Assam in the context of COVID-19 scenario in the state. On 25 May, Assam witnessed the biggest single-day spike in the number of coronavirus positive cases till now. A total of 156 COVID-19 positive cases were reported from various parts of the state on Monday. In comparision to this, there were 22 cases less on Tuesday. A total of 134 COVID-19 cases were reported from Assam on 26 May. The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Assam on Tuesday stands at 682. However, the number of active cases are 613.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state was 548 on 25 May. But on 26 May, the numbers went on increasing almost the whole day. All eyes seemed to be on the twitter page of State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Here is the complete sequence of how the positive cases were reported on 26 May.

  1. 26 May, 10.30 AM: 47 new cases: 21 Golaghat, 4 Lakhimpur, 8 Morigaon, 3 Goalpara, 1 Hojai, 1 MMCH, 02 Karbi Anglong, 5 Nagaon.
  2. 26 May, 04.20 PM: 02 new cases: All from Nagaon.
  3. 26 May, 08.00 PM: 19 new cases: 7 Karimganj, 5 Goalpara, 3 Guwahati, 1 each from Dhubri, Hailakandi, Udalguri, Lakhimpur.
  4. 26 May, 09.50 PM: 27 new cases: All from Golaghat.
  5. 26 May, 11.00 PM: 23 new cases: 21 Kamrup Metro, 1 each Nagaon & Darrang.
  6. 26 May, 11.55 PM: 16 new cases: 6 Hojai, 6 Golaghat, 2 Darrang,1 Kamrup Metro, 1 Kamrup.

State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, said that the government is fully prepared to face the situation. He, however, reiterated the point that the quarantine rules should have to obeyed with all sincerity. He expressed displeasure at the issues of violation of social distancing norms at the quarantine centres. In view of the spike of positive cases of novel coronavirus, said that the government will enforce the guidelines of quarantine norms stringently while stating that the people coming from outside will be sent for strict quarantine.
