Barak Valley registers 705 Covid-19 +ve cases on Friday along with 5 deaths
Active cases 3,519 in Barak Valley
May 21: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 705 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 569 positive cases. At present, there are 3,519 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 486 positive cases (It was 333 on Thursday)
- Karimganj: 102 positive cases (It was 134 on Thursday)
- Hailakandi: 117 positive cases (It was 102 on Thursday)
A total of 486 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Friday in Cachar. This is the highest single day spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the district since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020. As per the updated data, a total of 5.706 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 361 persons were found positive, whereas 1255 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Friday night. Also, 236 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 6,095 in 2021, whereas during the year, 4,160 patients were discharged.The total number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1,888.
Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. Friday witnessed demise of 05 more Covid-19 positive patients. 04 of them died at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), whereas, 01 died at Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (CCHRC). Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 05 deceased, 04 are from Cachar district, while 01 of them is from Hailakandi.
The deceased were identified as: Nanda Kishore Singha (71) from Sudarshanpur in Hailakandi, MayImrana Begum (38) from Tejitikar in Cachar and Putul Chandra Das (78) and Ajoy Majhi (48) from Malugram, Silchar. They died at SMCH. Whereas, one Mira Paul (77) from Ambicapatty, Silchar died at the Cachar Cancer Hospital at 3.30 AM on 21 May.
Hailakandi registered 117 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. Of the 117 positive cases detected on Friday, 102 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 17 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 814 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,456 RAT tests and 101 RT-PCR tests were done. 76 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 102 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Thursday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 5,074.
As of now, in the 18 plus category, 8,828 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine. In the 45 plus category, 48,345 have received the 1st dose of the vaccine, whereas, 15,249 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.
Karimganj registered 102 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 6,446. Of the 102 active cases detected on Thursday, 93 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and nine under RT-PCR. It needs mention that on Thursday, 134 persons were detected as Covid positive in Karimganj district. The district has currently 737 active COVID-19 cases while 60 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Friday. 2,728 swab samples were collected on Friday. Altogether 2,60,421 samples have been tested so far. There are five containment zones in Karimganj town.
On Friday, out of 1,03,158 tests, 6,066 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,59,640. The positivity rate in the state is 5.88 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 907 positive cases during the day. Further, on Friday, 81 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 2,588. On Friday, 4,987 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,02,889 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.
Further, during the day, 81 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 81 deceased, 24 are from Kamrup Metro; 7 each from Dibrugarh & Sivasagar; 5 from Jorhat; 4 each from Darrang & Tinsukia; 3 each from Golaghat, Hojai & Nalbari; 2 each from Cachar, Kamrup rural, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur & South Salmara; 1 each from Baksha, Chirang, Dhubri, Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Hailakandi, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon & Udalguri. The death tally of the state now stands at 2,588.
