Arundhati & Gyan Deepika: 2 unique schemes declared by Himanta

February 6: During his budget speech, state Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared 2 unique schemes on Wednesday. In his twitter handle, Sarma wrote about Arundhati scheme: “We shall give one tola gold, costing around Rs.38,000 as on today to brides belonging to all such communities of our state where it is customary to provide gold at the time of wedding.”

He wrote on twitter, “Benefit under #Arundhati can be availed upon formal registration of marriages under Special Marriage (Assam) Rules, 1954 & will reach beneficiaries right in time for the social marriage. It will be limited to only economically weaker sections, whose ann income is below Rs 5 lakh.”

Further, Minister Sarma also declared during the Budget session that his government has launched a new scheme under which any woman, upto age of 45 years, who loses her husband, will receive a lump sum amount of Rs 25,000 as ‘Immediate Family Assistance’ which will support the family tide over the financial vacuum created by the loss of the bread earner.

Another scheme entitled Gyan Deepika was also declared by the minister. Under this scheme, it was declared that in the Financial Year 2019-20, the government has introduced a scheme to provide battery operated “e-bikes” to all girl students who secure 1st division or above in higher secondary examinations for commuting to their places of higher studies.

Apart from this, admission fees waiver upto degree level has also been declared. Sarma has also declared to provide free uniform to students of Class IX and X. Along with it, he has also declared Rs.50,000 subsidy on all education loans. For free admission, the minister stated, “For free admission, we will enhance parental income level of Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2 lakh. We will also provide free textbooks to students upto degree level from present level of Class XII.”
