Around ₹55 lakh fine realised by Assam Police for violation of Covid protocol: DGP

May 17: With the imposition of stricter restrictions in order to curb the increasing coronavirus cases, Assam Police has jumped into action to oversee the obedience of the guidelines in all the districts. This time, Assam Police adopted a stern attitude in curbing violations of Covid protocols with a strong hand. Earlier during a press Meet Director General of Police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta warned that those violating the Covid SOP would be tried under sections similar to that of ‘attempt to murder.’

On Monday, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta held a press conference where he first of thanked the people of the state in general for obedience to the Covid protocol which has started to yield good results. He, however, added that there were sporadic incidents of violations of the guidelines in various parts of the state. Assam police has till now realised Rs. 45,86,900 from the violators during this phase of the restrictions.

The DGP also told that a large number of vehicles were seized by the Assam Police for violation of Covid curfew. He asked the owners of the vehicles to collect the same from the police stations after paying the requisite fine.
