Army canteen liquor smuggling racket busted in Assam

way2barak, April 18: A joint team of the Assam Police and Indian Army personnel busted an Army Canteen Stores Depot (CSD) liquor smuggling racket in Assam, arresting five people so far.
A statement from the Army on Saturday (April 18, 2026) said a consignment of about 150 cases of liquor intended for sale through CSD outlets catering to Army personnel was seized from near the Misamari Railway Station in north-central Assam on Friday.
With inputs from the Army’s Gajraj (Corps) Intelligence Unit, the team uncovered a “well-coordinated” effort to divert restricted supplies into unauthorised channels.
“The consignment was intercepted after it was moved out of the depot premises,” the statement read, adding that the seizure underlined inter-agency coordination to safeguard the integrity of military supply chains.

A First Information Report was filed at the Misamari police station in connection with the liquor diversion case. Officials did not rule out the possibility of a wider network in operation.
