Armed dacoits loot gold and cash worth ₹15 lakh from a house in Udharbond

Jan. 15: In a daring incident, a gang of around 20 plus dacoits entered into a house at Pangram in Udharbond district of Cachar at around 1 AM on Thursday. The burglars in the night entered into the house of one PWD contractor Anamul Haque Laskar who was also the erstwhile Gaon Panchayat President of Pangram.

Narrating the incident, Anamul Haque Laskar said, “A band of more than 20 armed dacoits suddenly broke open the grill and started to call us loudly to open the main door of the house. Initially, they identified themselves as policemen. All of them were armed with sharp weapons along with 2 hand-made pistols. Before I could understand anything, one of them pointed a pistol at me from point blank range and said that they are policemen and they have information that we have firearms in our house, which we should hand over to them. I told them that I do not have any firearms.”

“Meanwhile, another one took all our mobile phones. It was then that a man from that group ordered me to hand over all valuables and money. One of them specifically told me to hand over the money which I had withdrawn from the bank. I told them that as I am a contractor, I had given payment out of that money. Then I told them to take whatever money I had with me. They took the money and then again threatened me to give more money. They ransacked my entire house. Suddenly, to scare me, one of them fired a bullet on the ground near me. The man who opened fired was then rebuked by another from the gang for wasting bullets,” added Mr. Laskar.

Anamul Haque Laskar further said, “The gang of dacoits then looted all gold jewellery belonging to my wife and my sisters. They took gold ornaments of around 20 bhori and cash money around Rs. 15 lakhs. They took 7 mobile phones of all our family members. They also physically assaulted me with a iron rod. They tied my younger brother and thrashed him too. Initially they told that they are from Haflong and spoke in broken Hindi language. But later on they spoke in pure colloquial Bengali dialect which we Muslims speak over here. Later on, they locked us all inside a room and left. They were in our house for 1 hour and 5 minutes. But what shocked me the most was that I was given around Rs. 2.56 lakh by our local Masjid committee to keep that money. The robbers also took away that money though I begged them and told that the money belongs to the Masjid.”

Crowd assembled at the house on Friday

The owner of the house somehow got in touch with the police after the gang of dacoits left their house. Additional Police Super Jagadish Das along with the OC of Udharbond Police Station reached the spot with police forces and sniffer dogs. Police revealed that investigation is on and they are hopeful of nabbing the gang very soon.
