Apart from SC,ST & OBC, no other caste information to be sought by institutes during admission: Edu Minister

Aug. 22: After the declaration of the HSLC and HS results by SEBA and AHSEC, the admission procedure to HS and TDC are going on in full swing across the states in Higher Secondary schools and Colleges. Amidst the Covid pandemic, Assam Government has introduced a common admission portal ‘Darpan’ for seeking admission in HS First Year, whereas for TDC First Semester, colleges too are admitting the students online through their respective portals.

Meanwhile, it has come to the notice of the state Education Department that certain educational institutions were seeking information about caste affiliation of the students other than that of SC, ST and OBC. It is in this backdrop that State Education Minister, Dr Ranoj Pegu took to his twitter handle and wrote, “Apart from SC, St & OBC, no other caste based information is necessary for getting admission in schools and colleges. The state government too has not given any such instructions to collect caste based information apart from that of SC, ST and OBC.” Dr Pegu, therefore urged upon the institutions to debar from collecting such type of information from the students.
