All educational institutions in Assam to be closed indefinitely, says Himanta Biswa Sarma

May 5: In the wake of the rise in Covid-19 cases in the state, Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday stated that all educational institutions in the state shall be closed for indefinite period until further orders. Speaking to the journalists on the Covid situation, Himanta Biswa said, “All schools, colleges & other educational institutions shall remained shut in all districts of Assam for indefinite period irrespective of the number of Covid cases in the districts.”

Issuing an order to this effect on 5 May, 2021, the Secondary Education department of Assam stated, “In view of the surge in active Covid-19 cases and in supersession of all earlier Orders / Notifications etc, the Government in Education Department hereby directs for closure of all Educational Institutions (Government and Non- Government) from Pre-Primary Section to University level along with hostels and Coaching Institutions from 6th May, 2021 onwards until further orders. However. Online mode of Education should be made available for the students.”

The order issued by the Secondary Education department further mentioned that “The attendance of the office section of the educational institutions will be guided by the directives issued by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) vide No. ASDMA/2021/63 dated 4th May, 2021.”
