AIUDF & AAMSU have no role to play in the creation or omission of districts: CM Assam
way2barak, Jan.3: Amid controversy of the decision of the state government in re-designation of electoral boundaries in the state, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) have no role to play in the creation or omission of districts as well, and will not have anything to do with it in the future too. He further added, “We do not require the support of AIUDF and AAMSU for the process.
The Chief Minister said this during a public function in Raha in the Nagaon district of Assam on Jongal Balahu Diwas, where he gave official recognition of the government to the occasion.
The decision of merging 4 districts of Assam was taken in the last cabinet meeting held on 1 January, 2023 in New Delhi. The above four districts will be sub-divisions. Further, the cabinet also took decision of transfer of areas from one district to another. The following districts will be merged with other existing districts:
- Bajali with Barpeta district
- Biswanath with Sonitpur district
- Hojai with Nagaon district
- Tamulpur with Baksa district

The Chief Minister on Tuesday made it clear that his government does not need any support from AIUDF & AAMSU regarding the re-designation of electoral boundaries in the state.
