ABVP demands reduction of fees of existing students of Assam Univ, submits memorandum to VC

Dec. 13: Assam University Unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has raised the demand of reducing the fees of the existing students of the varsity. In this connection, they have also submitted a memorandum to Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, Vice Chancellor of the university on Friday.

ABVP in its memorandum stated that the fees of the existing students of the University should be waived off, as, the financial condition of the common people is at stake because of COVID 19 pandemic. They further stated that many parents and guardians of students/ research scholars become unemployed and so are not in a position to bear the financial burden of their wards. ABVP mentioned that the Government of Assam has already waived off all the entire fee of those studying in educational institutions run by the State Government.

In addition to that, ABVP also wrote, “Many universities across India have already declared waiving off fees or granting sufficient and considerable concessions for students in payment of fees. So, in order to protect the future of the existing students of our university, we demand your quick intervention and waive off total fees or grant considerable concession or reduction admission fees to be paid by the existing students for the session 2020 to 2021.”

They further stated that as it is not possible for students staying in far flung areas to make physical payment of fees in the bank, so demand was made to devise ways and means of making online payment. ABVP in their memorandum stated that if their demands are not fulfilled within 48 hours, then they will be compelled to resort to democratic means of agitation.

Later on, speaking to the media, members of the Assam University Unit of ABVP said, “We have submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor. Sir has assured us that a committee for sorting out our demand will be formed on Monday. He has further assured us that some reduction in the fees will be made and a new notification in this connection will be uploaded in the official website within a few days.”
